First of all, I’d like to thank you all for reading and commenting on the pages of my manga “Chocolate with Pepper”. It’s been a lot of fun to draw this story and it has helped me improve my art :D
I’m writing this post to answer some of the questions that people have been asking me. If you have questions about the story or the characters, feel free to leave a comment.
Things to keep in mind, as the story is set 100 years ago, in 1920-1930s Brazil:
- Being a single mom was considered scandalous for society and their families.
- Divorce didn’t exist in Brazil yet, so couples have to stay together and deal with their differences.
- The town in which the story is set is a small town in the countryside and gossip spreads fast
- Children must obey their parents, including picking their spouse.
- Some subjects that are now commonplace were taboos back then.
QnA
- Is the story of the manga the same as the telenovela?
The main story is the same, but I’ve removed some unnecessary bits and changed some scenes and the order of some of the events.
- Why did Ludovico marry Ana instead of adopting her?
It was so her child would have a father on paper. A fatherless child was seen badly in society.
- Why are some characters so stupid?😂😂😂
The story is a romantic COMEDY.
The characters are human beings with qualities and flaws, including the main characters. All characters have lessons to learn as the story progresses; some will only learn after making mistakes. There are no “enchanted princesses and princes” in this story and the “villains” are supposed to be funny.
- Why don’t the characters simply talk to each other and solve their differences instead of taking things at face value?
The story would end too quickly and there would be no fun or character development. Talking about their issues is something that the characters will learn until the last page of the story.
Their own conclusions usually happen due to misunderstanding that the villains had or will have a hand on, and due to the flaws in the personalities of the main characters:
For example, Ana was humiliated multiple times and that traumatized her. She thinks that Barbara told Danilo about her pregnancy, but Danilo doesn’t know about it at all. Barbara and Olga devised a plan to humiliate her again by making her think that Danilo is trying to avoid the responsibility of being a parent – that’s why she is still hurt and doesn’t trust Danilo.
Danilo, on the other hand, was a “playboy” and an irresponsible lad and, in his view, when he finally fell in love and decided to marry someone, he was “traded” for a millionaire old man (Ludovico) – it is normal that he feels betrayed and jealous and thinks that Ana is a gold-digger/scammer.
- Will the story have a happy ending?
Of course!! XD
And all characters will reap what they sowed and have the ending they deserve.
- How many chapters will the story have?
The original telenovela has 209 chapters, but the manga adaptation will likely have about 70 chapters.
- How can I purchase a physical copy of the story?

As you know, my manga "Chocolate with Pepper" is available for free to anyone who wants to read on Deviantart, Webtoons and Tapastic, and I will continue to post 1-2 pages per week.
Although my comic is non-profit, I always wanted to print my manga in a book and get my own copy, and, about two weeks ago, I finally found a publisher that did it! 8D
Yesterday a copy of my comic arrived and I'm super happy that it looks great!
I will not put it up for sale, it will only be for personal use and to offer to those who helped me with the translations and to those who support me in PAtreon in the "extra extra love" tier.
But, if you like my comic and if you like to help me translate it into more languages, I can also offer a copy of my comic and a keychain or magnet with my manga character (I only have chapters to make three books at this time, but I will continue to draw until I have enough chapters for the next books)
